In pursuit of this vision, we have been awarding the Pragati Leadership Inspiring & Successful Leadership Awards since 2022, showcasing individuals and organizations that deliver on innovation and growth in keeping with these ideals. This years’ awards recognise leaders across industries, and business sizes, who are inspiring people and leading their organizations to success.

This year, Uma Venkataraman, CEO and Co-Founder of Ixsight Technologies has been recognized as Emerging Business Leader of the Year 2024. She has been honored for her role in pioneering solutions in high-volume data solutions, and revolutionizing complex systems with her visionary approach to AI and technology. Ixsight’s solutions apply AI and machine learning to the processing of massive datasets and are rewiring how organizations handle KYC and other data-heavy functions.

A Reflection on Leadership

Unassuming and straightforward in her delivery, Venkataraman relates how Ixsight had previously thrown its hat in the ring for product awards, but she had never before considered an individual nomination for a leadership award. “Having thought about it I reflected that leadership is a work in progress, and it might not tie with a certain level or size that we’ve reached.” She went on to relate her sense of alignment with Pragati Leadership’s emphasis on the Quadruple Bottomline of people, planet, profit, and purpose. “When we started our business, it was with a strong sense of purpose. The two concepts that inspired us were Build To Last and starting a product company that would sell globally. This was our clear purpose. I did not know then that it would lead to a lot of success, more than 120 clients and so on, but we had a clear purpose and we had it in plenty.”

The Power of Persistence

Looking back on the 15-year journey of Ixsight, she reflects that “persistence is a big thing. When things are low you need to put that extra drive and extra passion into everybody around you. You need to lead with purpose and show people that this is somebody they can vest their careers on. That brings us to the importance of people.” She went on to add how, present in the room, was a former classmate of hers who came out of a supposed retirement to join in with the team. “Some of my clients have also joined me as employees. So all of us become like a family. It needs a lot of people to make a company a success!” She goes on to thank her family for supporting her through everything. Moving on to the theme of Planet, she says, “the business that we do makes the planet a better place, helping people safeguard their assets, helping ensure Anti Money-Laundering compliance, screening out bad players.”

Celebrating Success

“After 15 years, I am proud to say that our product serves the largest customer in India, with 100s of crores of records and daily screens for 1000s of banks and financial institutions.” She ends with a few watchwords. “You need to ensure that your client’s success is your success, and as a leader you need to ensure that everyone’s success is your success.
